Mysteriously, at the end of the Eighth Pass, nearly all of the thriving Weyrs were abandoned- Fort, Igen, High Reaches, and Telgar. The people of Pern became confident that the disappearance of the dragonriders meant the disappearance of Thread. When they waited for the Interval to end, and no new pass greeted them, confidence became regarded as absolute fact.
It was thusly that the Weyrs fell into disrepair, leaving only two Weyrs still inhabited. With only two remaining Queens on the face of Pern, one growing upward of age and the other with her clutches few and far between, the dragons slowly began to slip into memory.
But the rumors of Threadfall did not die.
A clutch on the sands of Ista offered a beacon of hope, until an unfortunate disturbance. With the task of Search and the burdensome rumors of Threadfall, no one noticed the increasing heat in the hatching sands, or the richer plume of smoke that had begun to rise from Ista's still-active volcano.
In a single blast, nearly all was lost. Dragons fell from the skies, and the Queen, herself, refused to leave her eggs in order to preserve herself. The gold remained on the sands, screaming defiance when a handful of strange dragons, neither from Benden or Ista, robbed her of a fraction of her clutch. The Queen struggled to chase the thieves, and in doing so, she met her death in a rain of fire.
Ista Weyr was lost, and to the north, the construction began. When it was that the new Weyr was started, no one was sure. All that's recalled is that several Turns before, changes began appearing in the face of the mountains on the Eastern coast of Ista Island. Gradually, its purpose became clearer, but only to the fishermen or mariners that still sailed the waters near Ista.
There were dragons in the sky.
Kazyeh Weyr, as it soon became known as, had a Queen: One who had appeared seemingly from nowhere. Had this Queen been kept a secret from all of Pern, or was something far stranger occurring? Only a handful of riders were to be found within Kazyeh, with a single bronze, easily recognizeable by the verdigris hilights of his hide.
Rumors of a rising Weyr began to surface, just as the first Search riders went to work, scouring the face of Pern to find those still willing to aid the dragonriders.
Kazyeh Weyr had only one Queen, but they did possess something just as good:
A queen egg.
Ista's clutch had been destroyed, but Kazyeh offered the remnants. Though the eggs were few, they were all of good size, and were adopted by Kazyeh's only Queen.
With time and patience, all began to fall into place. The eggs began to harden, and a hatching soon approaching, the future of Kazyeh Weyr began to unfold.
