Name: T'val Turns: 17 Gender: Male Rank: Weyrling Sexuality: Heterosexual Weyrmate: No
Appearance: Tival is the tallest in his family, standing at a rather impressive height of 6'2". Working alongside his father and brothers in the smithy since the age of twelve has given him a very buff physique, though he rarely seems to note it, as every single one of the men in his family is like this. Perhaps it is a little more notably predominant on him, who is a full two inches taller than his father, and his four brothers are even shorter than this, the shortest at 5'11". His face sports a defined jawline and a mild dimple on the chin, a wider nose, and dark, brown-black eyebrows that match the color of his hair. His eyes are very expressive, a deep brown which grows lighter in coloration as it reaches the middle, then darker at the pupils. Soulful would be a good way to describe them, though they hold a lot of laughter in them. His hair is kept shorter and naturally spikes out a bit, so dark brown that when wet it looks black. His skin, like all of his family, is a tanned complexion, and when he is out in the sun barely changes in color, perhaps a shade darker and not very notable to most.
Easily mistaken for a few years older than he is, Tival doesn't look his age. He prefers darker clothes but it's not unusual for him to wear a white or lighter colored shirt with darker trousers. He suits black and white equally, as well as brown. He likes wher-hide boots and his greatest treasure is his wher hide boots and jacket, a gift from his parents on his seventeenth turnday.
Personality: Tival is nothing if not easygoing. The guy just likes to have a good time, loves to be around people and is very social. He's totally fearless when it comes to speaking his mind, and very forward about what he's thinking, his intentions. He is always ready to speak up for the underdog, he's quite full of youthful bravado, however, and isn't beyond getting into a bit of adventuresome trouble, so long as no one gets hurt. He's really a great guy to just hang out with, talk to and be around. Sure, he has that bit of an ego that most boys his age have, but it's mostly a teasing fashion in which he goes about pointing it out. He's not really conceited or anything of the like. He just knows his own good points, and isn't about to back down on what he thinks or believes.
He does tend to have a downfall--he has a quick temper that can flare up quite suddenly if someone upsets him or someone he cares about. Along with that fearlessness comes a rashness and a manner of suddenly snapping on people if they aren't friends or closer to him and happen to upset him. He's not beyond throwing punches if he's ticked off enough, though it's not like he goes out looking to pick a fight. He can be quite jealous and territorial, however, when it comes to girls. He would never hit a girl, however, no matter if she hit him first. While he believes that guys and girls are equals, he also understands a hit from a guy like him could lay a girl out flat. He won't usually hit any 'smaller' guys, either. Just ones who piss him off and he knows can take it.
Tival is great at listening and chatting, always thinking of something to do to fill in the silences, to pass the time. He does work as a Smithcrafter under his father, so it stands to reason he likes working with his hands. He enjoys doing wood carvings, though if you asked him to make a chair it wouldn't exactly come out very chair-like. He can carve very intricate statues of animals and dragons, however. He has been doing so since a young age and has grown quite adept at it. He is more wise than he is smart, in intellect he is only a little ways above average. Tactical, however, he is quite. He is great so far as tactics go, and problem solving of that kind. He is very helpful and quite sincere but he has a problem stepping up to the plate and taking charge, needing to be forced by others to do so. He could be great at leading, since he's fair and has a really good head on his shoulders...most of the time.
Tival has a very direct way of going about getting what he wants. He doesn't sulk, or just plot. He goes for what he wants, and where there's a will in him--and there is!--there is sure as rukbat rises a way. He is downright stubborn, is what it is. Not exactly the best trait, as he secretly doesn't much care for authority and if he doesn't respect someone he has a habit of downright rebelling openly, in his temperamental mannerism. It isn't attractive to see a hot headed teen stubbornly standing up to his betters, but he can't help it sometimes. Almost always it ends up with him backing down, irritated and having to admit to himself he was out of line. Actually, it results in a lot of sincere--or sometimes only mildly sincere--apologies. However, if he believes he is right...no apologies forthcoming. He is just that stubborn.
Tival really could have a good time doing just about anything. Work or play he makes it fun, even if he hates the chore. Really, work is something he is used to--hard work. It makes no sense to him not to just do it and get it over with. He prefers to just get it done with, and has no patience for lazy complainers--even if he procrastinates when he knows he has any time to actually do so. Still, it always gets done when it needs to, and that's what counts. He'd rather be enjoying life in any way he can than lingering on complaining or fussing over what he doesn't like doing. He could have many friends, but really sticks close with his family and a few closer friends. He isn't really a private person, but he just prefers it that way. He is usually pretty busy, and likes to divide his time among those closest to him rather than seeking to be a guy with a million friends.
If Tival could have been one thing? It would actually be a rider--and seems like he got his wish! While he likes Smithcrafting well enough, sometimes he felt he was meant for something more. So when he was Searched, it was the best day of his entire life. Of course he forgot all about the fact that not everyone is going to Impress. His eternal optimism wouldn't allow for it. That would describe him to a T...always optimistic. He never gives up, no matter how hard things get, or dreary they are looking. It is a great strength--and a huge weakness. Sometimes, he doesn't know when to quit. Other times, the unexpected happens because he doesn't.
History:
Father: Deilun (48, Master Smithcrafter) Mother: Lillia (46, Housewife) Brother: Jakan (23, Journeyman Smithcrafter) Brother: Roian (21, Journeyman Smithcrafter) Brother: Teagen (15, Apprentice Smithcrafter) Brother: Merek (13, Apprentice Smithcrafter) Tival was born as the third male in a family of five sons. After Merek, his mother simply gave up on trying to have a daughter and decided she was fated to have a family of boys. Tival was a big baby, and a hard birth, yet a successful one. Brought into a decent world, he was celebrated as his brothers before him had been.
Deilun, or Dei, as he was usually called, was a strict, no nonsense kind of man. Hard working, he expected no less from his boys, and yet it was quite clear that even though he expected much from them, he loved them all dearly. He showed no favoritism, though the youngest and quietest boy, Merek, was quite obviously Lillia's favorite. Still, it didn't mean she showed her other sons less love, just that it was one of those things where she had a special sort of love for Merek. Jakan and Teagen displayed signs of jealousy, especially Teagen, who was the youngest before Merek's birth. However, the other brothers let it slide off their shoulders, because they understood it couldn't be helped and jealousy was a useless and undesirable thing. Even though they may have felt it to a degree, they overcame it and helped Teagen and Jakan to do the same.
As brothers, there was the usual spats and outbreaks of arguing and fights. Rough and tumble boys, they were often a rowdy bunch growing up, and there were more than a few fist fights, punches thrown, wrestling matches and tussles. Dei believed that boys would be boys, and let them fight it out amongst themselves, always instilling that family was the most important thing they had. Really, they were all very close knit, and always there to back one another up, even if prior that day they'd had an argument or fight. Big boys, the lot of them, black eyes and bloody noses weren't infrequent. Still, brothers are brothers, and there is a bond between them that never faltered.
There came a time when the going got hard and marks were less, that Tival and his elder brothers got to do some traveling to sell their goods and services elsewhere. They got to see Fort Weyr, as they'd grown up in Fort Hold, and even were honored by seeing a hatching. It was quite the experience for the then 11 Turns old Tival, who had the image of dragons burned into his mind from that day onward. He had always imagined what it might be like to ride a dragon, as many boys did, including his brothers. His eldest two, however, had never been Searched, and though Tival retained some hopes of it happening, he figured no one in his family had, so maybe it wasn't in their blood. Still, he liked to dream.
His father had been teaching him the Smithcraft skills, but when he was thirteen, his father sent him to the Smithcraft Hall like his brothers before him. Tival really enjoyed being in the Hall and did his best to make his father and Master proud. Still, there was always an itch in the back of his mind, something he couldn't quite place a finger on. It just felt like he wanted to do more than Smithing.
It was at another visit to Fort while visiting his family that Tival was Searched, at sixteen Turns of age. His father didn't want him to stand, even though he was secretly proud of his boy. Standing was an honor, and yet a selfish part of him wanted to keep his boys in the family craft, as he and Tival had come to be closer during the years, and he knew that if his middle child Impressed, his dragon would become his life. However, Tival was set on standing, and agreed he would stay until his seventeenth turnday...no longer.
It was decided that he'd go to a smaller Weyr than Fort, and the name of Akum came up. They apparently had a couple of queens there, and a hatching coming up at some point in the near future. So he would stand, and that was all that mattered to Tival, excited at this prospect of a new and exciting life. He was told he might not Impress, but his optimism reigned supreme, and he was convinced it would happen for him, one way or the other. Stubborn boy.
As it turned out he had heard many tales of Akum Weyr. The people from the deceased planet and the firebirds they had brought with them were only tales to him even though he knew it was a reality. And what a reality it turned out to be! He ended up feeling he was in a whole new world of sorts when he arrived at Akum. The firebirds were indeed real and marvelous to behold. He actually wouldn't have minded having one but he was more adamant about Impressing a dragon. Even he couldn't have predicted the mutations however. Even he couldn't have predicted that he wouldn't Impress a bronze, brown or blue. Not even a white chose him on that day.
On the sands he was joking around with his fellow candidates as usual and trying to lighten the atmosphere. Inside he was feeling optimistic but quite nervous. His first hatching around he only hoped to Impress like the rest of those around him. When the eggs started hatching it was all he could do to pay attention to each and every one of the dragonets that broke the shell. Bronze, brown, blue and green. All of them seemed to be overlooking him and going to other candidates. He was happy to see them successfully Impressing and yet the numbers of eggs dwindled down to only three remaining. That was when the egg that was also expected to hold a bronze broke. That was when he Impressed his very own dragon, who announced himself as the Eclipse dragon, Xanth. It was the day that changed Tival--now T'val's--life forever.
Weyrlinghood was tricky and Xanth, with all his headstrong and possessive traits. Still Xanth was a bronze in a different hide and larger size. Really once T'val learned how to control Xanth's impulses they started to do much better. Still, Xanth is pretty stubborn and very much the 'take charge' kind of dragon and they still have much work to do to be a great dragonpair upon graduation!

Name: Xanth Turns: 1 Color: Eclipse
Appearance: Xanth is not done growing yet but will finally top out at a full impressive 42 meters. Since he is the first of his mutation to hatch no one can know just how big he will grow to be at the present time. He so far sets the 'standard' for his color, with his jet black hide that sports dark purple 'stripes' which look like 'swirls' almost in some places. The underside of his wings is a dark purple and so is the anomaly which seems to have no use besides to set him further apart--the mane that begins in the center of his head and ends finally at the base of his neck. His claws are curved and sharp and unlike those to follow him the fork on his tail is also covered in the same 'fur or hair' as his 'mane'. In this he is unique as none after him will sport this mutation.
For all his size Xanth is much more slender and lean than either a bronze or a gold. His legs appear long as does his neck and tail. He is muscular but it is leaner, more like a middle ground between a blue and brown. He might be mistaken for a female by those who don't know any better simply based on first glance of his structure. Yet a second look shows that there is more bulk to him than greens and he is most certainly male. He is a perfect combination of build to support speed and stamina and this will show all the more when he is full grown. Capable of lasting a full fall and even of having more stamina than a bronze or queen he will surprise all the day he rises to chase for the first time.
Personality: Sometimes those who are unique from the rest of the world are dismayed or upset that they are the only one like themselves. Not so with Xanth! The Eclipse is only too proud to be what he is and has no problems letting the rest of Pern know this. He seems to have unwavering confidence and an attitude that says he knows his own worth. Ego? A little. After all, bigger is better--right? Xanth is under the impression--false or no!--that his size makes him the 'king of the world' and that there is nothing he and his can't achieve. Nothing seems out of reach for the Eclipse. A gold? Just wait until he can chase! You want someone to do something dangerous and daring? Let's go! Really it's called overconfidence and yet it does lead to a great deal of bravery--or perhaps bravado. In time he'll learn that he can't do everything, save everyone and accomplish every single thing all on his own. Relying on others isn't his strong point.
In the meantime no Weyrlingpair could be said to be better matched! T'val and Xanth balance each other out astoundingly well. The Eclipse is never willing to lay back and watch the world pass him by. He likes to be having a good time and fun is the name of his game. Considering this it's surprising he rarely speaks to anyone but his bonded. T'val will tell you he has a lot to say and yet to others, save females he likes or people he has taken a special shine to? He's loves keeping up the idea that he is a 'dark and mysterious' enigma. It's all part of his game plan, don't you see? Dark and mysterious is awesome, isn't it? The Eclipse really is quite the one for the dramatic air.
From the second Xanth could fly he preferred to be in the air rather than on the ground. He is also a bit claustrophobic and doesn't like cramped spaces or small, dark cave tunnels and the like. But in the air? It's just him, his and the great wide open. Xanth loves to try out new and tricky aerial maneuvers. He adores showing off his prowess in the skies. On the ground he surprises others with his astounding speeds. He has long legs and knows how to use them and yet he won't be caught running anywhere unless he absolutely has to. It's simply not the 'cool' thing to do. He knows he's one sharding cool dragon. He's not about to ruin his 'image'.
For all the show, Xanth has a lot to back it up. Yes, he's quite possessive about his and the golds or lunars he takes a shine to. They're 'his' after all and while he won't overstep things with a gold he will try and claim a stake on the one he has his eyes on. He might not like authority and won't be bossed around by any bronze--which is probably why it would be a good idea for him to be a Wingleader rather than a Wingrider--and he's pretty headstrong. But he is quite smart and knows how to charm and coax others into liking or listening to him. Charisma is what it is. He isn't afraid to do anything he asks another to do and he more than pulls his weight. Like his bonded he really isn't lazy...though he likes to lounge around when he has the free time and is very cool and collected in attitude. He tries not to let anything rankle him. He won't pick fights but he does like showing that he can hold his own verbally or otherwise.
He's a very unique dragon in more than just looks. He tends to be interesting and knows that he is. He's just comfortable being what he is is what it really boils down to. He is cool as a sea cucumber. Nothing can phase him--or so that's what he'll have everyone believe.
Other: He adores golds and lunars and enjoys being an enigma, using his charisma to make others take an interest in him then keeping them guessing.
