Name: Shay Turns: 16 Gender: Female Rank: Candidate Sexuality: Heterosexual Weyrmate: No
Appearance: Not the tallest in the Weyr, Shay stands at 5'2". She tends to tilt her head to the side a little when looking up at someone much taller than she is--or a dragon. Her build is slender and her body is fairly physically fit. Still there is no more than the normal show of toning and even then she could use some more activity to tone up notably better. Her skin is pale and seems to burn too easily from not being exposed to the sun nearly as much as she ought to be. Working indoors and living in the Northern climate has not given her much resistance to the sun's blazing heat. So if she is going to be out it in for any lengthly time she has to put protective cream on her skin. Of course given time she will build up more resistance but in the meantime? Burns are not fun.
Shay's hair is something that makes her very easy to spot even in a crowd. It is roan red in coloration with a mixture of very dark and very light red highlights throughout. She considers it her best feature though some would argue her eyes are equally nice. Her hair is naturally lightly curled starting near her jawline. The curl is light enough to be considered 'wavy' and when her hair is wet it is completely straight. Her eyes seem to reflect the color of her hair: a dark brown outer rim, and lighter burnt ember brown at the centers. Her eyebrows are the same coloration as her hair.
Shay has fuller lips and a nose that is best put as 'adequately matched' to the rest of her face. It's surprising that she has no freckles on her face. The only time any begin to remotely show is when she is very tanned or burnt from sunlight exposure. Her hands and feet are small and delicate. Really while she doesn't look fragile she does seem effeminate enough that it would give others the impression she is more of a woman used to a bit of a softer style of life. Her clothing is usually darker colors though there are a few lighter ones that don't look too poorly on her. She tends to like black and dark blue, green, purple and crimson.
Personality: Shay is really a gentle kind of soul. A girl with good intentions and a good heart she only tries to follow it and her dreams. She isn't exactly shy so much as she is very humble. She shows others the respect due to their ages, rank and positions. She treats everyone as she would like to be treated. Modest, she never wears clothes that are too revealing and would give anyone the wrong impression. Indeed she is quite the polite young woman.
Shay absolutely loves reading and writing, always found with her nose buried in scrolls. When she isn't reading she is painting, drawing or sculpting. She really wants to be an artist but took up a craft as Jewelcrafter because there would not be enough income as an artist. She doesn't mind it as a craft and yet at the same time it is not nearly as interesting to her as her writing and art. Those hobbies aside she loves the stars and thinking about other planets and space. The idea that there is more out there has always fascinated her and when the people came from the planet Akum her imagination went wild. If there were people on other planets and creatures like the firebirds on Akum, how many more were out there? Her imagination went wild with ideas and she started drawing, painting and sculpting all sorts of imagined things. She also started writing about things that didn't exist. So it was that she also became a bit of a storyteller as well.
Shay is an absolutely terrible liar. In other words, she doesn't know how to lie and if she tries it's painfully obvious. In fact Shay is pretty much like an open book--unable to hide her emotions or feelings because her expressions bear all. She tries to be tough and brave and yet she is not the sort of girl who can easily hide things like sadness, anger or fear. Nor does she believe crying or showing emotion is weakness. She is a very open and honest person and speaks from the heart.
There is a good chance that Shay is far too naive and far too willing to believe the best of everyone. Maybe it's that she doesn't like to believe ill of others. She doesn't like idle gossip and will be the first to say something if a situation seems unfair or like people are speaking about someone behind their back. She can seem like quite a firecracker even through her small stature and frame. Still at most times she is very friendly and more on the soft-spoken side. She tends to treat boys the same way she does girls though being flirted with embarrasses her and she is only particular about who she is interested in.
History: Shay was born at High Reaches Weyr to a brownrider and greenrider pairing. Unlike many dragonrider parents her mother and father were Weyrmated and though their daughter was raised as a Weyrbrat she saw her parents all the time, got gifts each turnday and generally had a better relationship with them than the other children of dragonriders around her. It was the cause of a fair amount of jealousy from some of the less fortunate children who never saw their parents or didn't even know who they were. But such was the life of Weyrbrats. They were all leading a decent life and were all taken care of by the Weyr. Most accepted that this was how things were. Only Shay reminded many of them that they would have liked to have their parents in their lives more.
Shay was always quiet and reserved growing up. She wasn't the sort to cause trouble and kept to herself. She was a bit of a loner except one or two closer friends--again because of the envy directed at her relationship with her parents in earlier life. She was friendly and polite to everyone, always well mannered and a child who did her parents proud. However she often was too quiet to defend herself and was easily a target for the trouble makers in the Weyr. They could pick on her and get away with it because she simply didn't want to get anyone into trouble, deserved or not. Eventually she grew out of this but it took a few turns of bullying before she learned to stand up for herself a little better. She was better at sticking up for anyone else who wasn't herself. Her friends or the underdogs like her she felt it was her duty to defend.
When she was seven turns she ended up somehow being adopted by a stray canine. He was an older canine at about six years of age but he quickly became her best friend. She named him Guardian--and so he was. She never had the luck of obtaining a firelizard but was content with her Guardian. He found her and she thought it was meant to be. She often spent a lot of time talking to the canine as though he might actually understand what she said--sometimes it seemed as though he really did. When he passed away it was the hardest experience of her life. He passed away at thirteen turns when she was fourteen turns herself. She isolated herself and buried herself in her reading, writing and art. She could not be consoled for months afterward. It was the first death she had ever experienced. It was being Searched that brought her out of her depression.
She was nearly fifteen, painting a picture in the Weyr Bowl of a blue dragon that was being given a bath and oiling. That was when his rider came over. He asked if he might buy the painting, causing Shay to blush shyly and tell him that he could have it. He pressed a few marks into her hand and then told her he had something else for her: the news that she would be able to stand at the next hatching. Shay thought he was pulling her leg and laughed until she realized he was actually serious.
The next hatching was nearly a turn later. She ended up not Impressing though she was very nearly mauled by a bronze dragonet. It was then that she heard that they were accepting candidate transfers to the newest--and strangest--Weyr on Pern. The very Weyr that had inspired her to write strange stories and do art of creatures that didn't exist. Akum Weyr was her inspiration and to actually have a chance to go there was beyond all expectation. Had it been anywhere else she never would have agreed. It was daunting to change where she would be living after all those turns. Her parents supported the choice though, and her mother was the one to drop her off at Akum to begin her life as a candidate there. Of course the firebirds and mutations were beyond expectation. They gave her inspiration for more stories and featured in much of her art from there on in.

Color Preferences: 1. Celestial, White 2. Brown, Blue, Green 3. Gold Why you want the colors: Same reason as before: I have been playing DRoP 12 years and love mutations since I always played canon. With this character I don't mind what she gets however. Be it Celestial or White, Brown or Green. :3 Why you think you deserve the colors: I don't. Though maybe the Green, Blue and Brown! The others I would need to prove I deserve. Stands/Sands: This would make a neat stands Impression but up to you again. Mutations: I wonder if anyone actually ever says 'no' to this. lol* Who wouldn't? ^^; Injuries: Again, so long as it doesn't leave big scars it's up to you!
